Sunday Reflection - Slowing Down

Slowing Down, Like the Bees

Stress and anxiety sneak into our lives quietly, sometimes without us even noticing until our shoulders are tense, our breath is shallow, and our minds are racing. But every so often, something reminds us to pause—to take stock of what we’ve been given and what we’ve been building.

Honeybees have a way of teaching this lesson without saying a word. A hive is always buzzing, each bee busy with its task. At first glance, it looks like chaos. But if you slow down and watch, you see balance. Each bee knows its role, moving with purpose, connected to the rhythm of the colony. They aren’t frantic. They’re steady.

When we mirror the bees, we can find a similar peace. Stress tells us there isn’t enough time, enough energy, enough us. But gratitude shifts that. Just like a bee adds drop after drop of nectar until honeycomb is full, we can see the sweetness we’ve been gathering—our relationships, our work, our small victories each day.

The moment we pause, breathe, and notice what’s already here, life feels different. Less heavy. More meaningful.

So maybe the bees have it right: keep moving with purpose, but don’t forget to savor the honey you’ve already made.
